IT'S HERE!

TO M'LOU MUSIC PRESENTS A LONG-AWAITED LABOR OF LOVE...

He's A Rebel: The Gene Pitney Story Retold

Gene Pitney. Singer, writer, producer/engineer, multi-instrumentalist, man with a good business sense, you name it! His non-stop career has brought him immense international success and respect. Hits he has written for others as well, such as "He's A Rebel" and "Hello Mary Lou," help keep him a legend.

My own very first memory of Gene was through my mother's record collection. Petula Clark, The Animals, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones... but here was one I hadn't listened to yet: A double album called This Is Gene Pitney. Something about that album really grabbed me. Intrigued me.

So I took this record to my room and put it on while I was cleaning or something. When the music started I thought, yea, nice vibe. But as soon as Gene Pitney started singing, I stopped everything I was doing and let myself be taken wherever he wanted to take me. Song after song, this man's dedication to every single track, every individual note, was totally inspiring; his tenor voice so genuine, dripping with dramatic essence!

I quickly went out to hunt down whatever other Pitney records I could from various collectors' stores and swap meets. To my surprise, I found a lot of everything, from tons of albums to 45's to lyric sheets to tour programs of shows Gene had appeared on. Oh, and even that hard-to-find bootleg recording with The Rolling Stones and Uncle Phil Spector (wink wink).

I started this treasure hunt about ten years ago, and although I still haven't completed my collection, I've often wondered how I could offer some sort of Thank You to Gene Pitney along the way for all the music he has given to us during his career.

But I never knew quite how. Until now.

So here we present a heartfelt tribute to the man, filled with songs he is best known for, alongside others perhaps not so familiar but every single bit as exceptional, each crafted and contributed by dedicated Pitney fans and friends the world over. Of course there are so many more songs, and so many other artists ...but there was only just so much room here in this particular Gene pool of ours!

Now please, wherever and whenever you listen, remember that somewhere else tonight Gene Pitney is still on tour, on stage, recording, keeping as busy and productive as ever. And Gene? Please know that wherever your music has yet to take you, we will always, all of us, be right here. Right there for... The Man Called Pitney.

Everybody, then! Enjoy!
